Theresa Schafzahl traded to Seattle Torrent

Theresa Schafzahl made history for Austria and the club. She was the first Austrian to be drafted since the PWHL was founded in 2023. In Boston's first competitive game, she scored the franchise's first goal in club history on 3 January 2024.

Her experience, including with the Austrian national team, with whom she earned promotion to the Top Division in spring 2025, is intended to help Seattle move off the bottom of the table. Torrent General Manager Meghan Turner said: “Theresa is an experienced forward who is consistent and dependable in all areas of the ice and in every situation. She inspires her teammates with simple, hard-working plays, and we are very excited to have her join us in Seattle. This trade was about what we felt best suited our team and the identity we want to build. We thank Jessie for her contribution to our first season and wish her good luck in Boston.”

Theresa Schafzahl has spent her entire PWHL career in Boston after being selected in the seventh round of the first PWHL Draft following five seasons at the University of Vermont. She scored her team's first-ever goal on 3 January 2024 and has recorded 17 points (8 goals, 9 assists) in 69 career games, including two goals and six points in 19 games for the Fleet this season. 

Seattle face Montréal Victoire at Place Bell on Thursday night. Theresa Schafzahl will make her first appearance in her new jersey.
