Theresa Schafzahl extends with Boston Fleet for one year

Last season, Schafzahl played all 30 games for Boston, recording three goals and two assists. The Weiz native secured her place in the club’s history books thanks to her goal on 3 January 2024, which also marked the first goal in the team’s PWHL history. In the PWHL’s inaugural season, Boston lost to Minnesota in the final, with Minnesota successfully defending the title against Ottawa Charge, featuring Anna Meixner, last season. 

“Over the past two years, the team, the fans and the city have felt like a second home to me,” Theresa Schafzahl said via the Boston Fleet website. “I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to play there again and compete for the title!”

Boston Fleet General Manager Danielle Marmer raves about the Austrian: “Theresa is a very versatile player who brings tremendous value to our line-up. Her work ethic, effectiveness on the forecheck and ability to force turnovers make her a natural fit here in Boston. She also has the skills, hockey sense and creativity to contribute as a top-six player, and with the expanded opportunities this season, we’re looking forward to seeing more of that offensive side.”

With the national team, Theresa Schafzahl won gold at the Division IA World Championship in China in April. As a result, the women’s national team will compete in the Top Division next year for the first time in its history. It is not yet known where the 2026 World Championship will be held.
