Theresa Schafzahl and Anna Meixner embark on a new era in the PWHL

The Professional Women’s Hockey League will embark on a new era early in the new season. New team names, new logos and new looks are generating great excitement and attention. The two ÖEHV forwards, Theresa Schafzahl with Boston Fleet and Anna Meixner with Ottawa Charge, are on the rosters for the training camps before final preparations for the PWHL begin at a mini camp in Montréal at the end of November.

Everything is new in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), founded last year, which began its inaugural season in January 2024.

The six founding teams, which competed under generic names such as PWHL Boston and PWHL Ottawa in the first season, enter the new season with new team names: Boston Fleet, Minnesota Frost, Montréal Victoire, New York Sirens, Ottawa Charge and Toronto Sceptres, all of whom will also sport new logos and new looks, ushering in a new era early on.

For the two ÖEHV forwards Theresa Schafzahl, who, having played for PWHL Boston in 2024, now plays for Boston Fleet, and for Anna Meixner, who signed a one-year contract with Ottawa at the end of June, the battle to make the final cut and remain on their respective teams’ final rosters begins at the so-called Preseason Mini Camp in Montréal from 19th to 22nd November.

This preparation camp will take place at the Verdun Auditorium, with Montréal Victoire, Boston Fleet and Ottawa Charge forming this group. This means Theresa Schafzahl and Anna Meixner will be together on site for training sessions and exhibition games as the final rosters of the three teams mentioned are decided.

Internal training camps get under way first

The teams will count down to this mini camp in Montréal internally. The PWHL announced this on 11th October 2024. Schafzahl and Meixner were officially named to their respective training camp rosters by their teams, Boston Fleet and Ottawa Charge. Anna Meixner is also one of 29 players at Ottawa Charge who will begin preparations for the 2024/2025 PWHL season at Ottawa’s TD Place from 12th November. >> to the roster

At the start of January, Theresa Schafzahl scored PWHL Boston’s first PWHL goal in her first appearance as a professional ice hockey player, making club history in the process.

In total, the Styrian recorded six points (3 goals, 3 assists) in 20 regular-season games and added three assists in eight playoff games.
