The Red-White-Red Thread addresses fundamental aspects of sound training for young ice hockey players. The information is based on the best possible training experience and scientific findings of recent years, which have been compiled and developed in collaboration with the BSPA and ÖEHV.
The aim of this concept is to develop an Austrian pathway for youth ice hockey and remain up to date through continuous adaptations.
In order to instil the ice hockey “virus”, the main focus is on age-specific, long-term performance development through on-ice and athletic training sessions, as well as providing experiences in the sport of ice hockey.
Another positive aspect is that these guidelines can make coaches’ work on and off the ice easier. However, this should not mean taking away coaches’ individuality in designing training sessions.
In addition to recommendations for everyday training, the concept also provides insights into ÖEHV’s work with regard to its vision and national teams.
ÖEHV President Klaus Hartmann: “The Red-White-Red Thread represents a milestone in the training of players in Austrian ice hockey and is also a flagship project of the Austrian Ice Hockey Federation. With the Red-White-Red Thread, we aim to bring Austrian ice hockey, from youth level to the senior national teams, closer to the international elite and establish ourselves in the top divisions in the long term.”
ÖEHV Sporting Director Roger Bader: “Over the past few months, we have worked intensively to revise, update and adapt the training materials, which are now nearly 30 years old and were good for their time, to meet today’s requirements. Ultimately, the Red-White-Red Thread is about developing and strengthening Austrian ice hockey. This happens primarily through better-trained coaches. The Red-White-Red Thread will change Austrian ice hockey for the better.”
Head of Youth Training and Development Florian Mühlstein: “I am convinced that putting the Red-White-Red Thread online creates a solid foundation for the future training and further education of our coaches in Austria. Through the continuous development and adaptation of its content, our aim is always to be up to date and represent current teaching principles. The Red-White-Red Thread is intended to be a continuously growing resource covering a wide range of topics, from training management to club management.”
