The Ice Hockey World Cham­pi­onship LIVE on ORF – top clashes against USA, FIN, FRA and DEN on ORF 1

Seven games in nine days – once again, the programme is a demanding one for the red-white-red players. The campaign gets under way on 13 May against France, the first of four games to be shown live on ORF 1. As well as match 3 against Denmark, the top clashes against USA and defending champions Finland will also be shown on the domestic premium channel.

Heading to Tampere with good memories

In 2022, history was made at one of the world's most modern ice hockey arenas, the Nokia Arena. Following the 1:3 opening defeat to Sweden, Austria came close to its first major upset on 15 May, losing 2:3 to USA in overtime. It came less than 48 hours later with a 2:1 penalty shoot-out win over Czechia, the first victory over our neighbours in history!

Further top results followed against Norway (3:5), Latvia (3:4 after a penalty shoot-out) and eventual world champions Finland (0:3). With an incredible finish in the final group game, Austria eventually defeated Great Britain 5:3 to secure its place in the top division.

That is also the stated goal for 2023. If the mission of staying in the top division is successful, it would be the first time in 18 years that Austria has finished among the top 14 twice in succession and thus remained an A nation. Head Coach Roger Bader: “We have good memories of Tampere and will do everything we can to achieve that.”

ORF will broadcast all Austria matches live, including the clashes against France, Denmark, USA and Finland on ORF 1, while the games against Sweden, Germany and Hungary will be shown on specialist channel ORF SPORT +. In addition, the ÖEHV partner will broadcast Germany vs. USA on 15 May, as well as the clash between Finland and Sweden on the same day.

In addition, the rights were secured for two quarter-final deciders, both semi-finals, the game for 3rd place and the final.
