Test against US college: declawing the Panthers
Austria's women's national ice hockey team is contending with illness-related absences ahead of the two upcoming test matches against US college side Middlebury Panthers. However, even though the squad cannot call on all its players for the two test matches against the Americans in Kitzbühel on 29 December at 18:45, and in Innsbruck on 30 December at 13:40, the objectives remain unchanged.

One of the primary objectives is for the team to come together. After all, a large proportion of the North America-based players are currently with the national team and need to be integrated into the system. It is also an initial opportunity for the players to put themselves forward for further duties in relation to the home World Championship in April 2024.
Despite the current illness-related absences,Head Coach Alexander Bröms remains satisfied: “The players are doing a good job. As usual, we are working on the details and want to steadily raise our level from one team camp to the next.”
The aim is to deliver two evenly matched games against the US college side from NCAA III. The Swedish head coach's focus is on working on the team's own DNA and style of play.
In Telfs, as well as at the venues in Kitzbühel and Innsbruck, the national team finds optimal conditions. By staging this team camp and the test matches in Tyrol, the aim is to raise the profile of Austrian women's ice hockey nationwide, having already visited Upper Austria and Carinthia this year.
U18 preparing for World Championship Division IA
Alongside the senior national team, the U18 squad has gathered in St. Pölten to prepare for the upcoming U18 World Championship Division IA, taking place from 6 to 12 January in Egna (ITA). Tomorrow, Friday, at 17:00, they will face Hungary in Budapest in a test match, followed by tournament favourites Japan shortly after New Year.
“Hungary are an established nation in Division IA. This test is not about the result, but about allowing the team to come together,” saysGeneral Manager Martin Kogler. Here, too, the team is currently dealing with illness-related absences.

Home World Championship Division IA 2024
From 21 to 27 April 2024, Klagenfurt will host the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women´s World Championship 2024. Austria will face Hungary, France, Norway, the Netherlands and South Korea for promotion to the Top Division. Following 2009 and 2017, it will be the third Women’s World Championship on Austrian ice.
