Successful ÖEHV Coaches Clinic in Vienna with inter­na­tional exper­tise

Thanks to the cooperation with the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation as part of the “Growing the Game Funds”, Markus Graf, Switzerland's long-serving head of coach education, was secured as an internationally recognised expert speaker.

Another highlight was the contribution from Peter Schweda, head coach of the Austrian U17 team at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF), who provided a well-founded review of the performances and put the development of Austrian youth ice hockey into an international context.

Judith Haudum (nutrition scientist) and Thomas Strobl (sports scientist), two proven experts, further enriched the programme.

Their presentations on “Optimal nutrition for peak performance on the ice” and “Athletic training in youth development – limited resources, unlimited possibilities” were very well received.

The event concluded with an exciting panel discussion on “Success in elite sport: luck, talent and/or hard work?” featuring Markus Graf, Peter Schweda and Mario Kogler, who previously worked as head coach of the U20 in Bern and won the Swiss Cup 2021 as interim head coach of Bern's first team.

“In my opinion, our internal training courses are moving in the right direction. Participant numbers are rising and/or remain consistently high – that is something that greatly pleases us as a federation,” said Florian Mühlstein, ÖEHV head of coach education.

“It is great to see the ambition and passion with which the coaches continue their education, and how actively exchanges between clubs are maintained.”

Following the Coaches Clinic, participants had the opportunity to watch the senior national team's international match live – a fitting conclusion to an intensive day of further education.
