Successes for Lakers Kärnten and Sabres St. Pölten in the win2day AWHL

Sabres St. Pölten and Lakers Kärnten celebrated victories in the win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League on Sunday. While the Lower Austrians claimed a clear win in Graz, the Lakers did not seal their victory over Salzburg until the third period. There was also an Austrian win in the European Women’s Hockey League on Sunday. KSV Highlanders beat Tauron Metropolia Silesia 5:2.

The Sabres claimed a clear 7:2 away win in Graz in the win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League. Lena Artner opened the scoring with the first of her two goals after just 70 seconds. Although the Huskies levelled the score in the meantime, the Lower Austrians took a 3:1 lead into the first intermission.


The visitors took control in the second period, pulling away to 1:6 by the 40th minute. Rylee Davison also got on the scoresheet in the 48th minute, with five of the Sabres’ seven goals coming on the power play. With their sixth AWHL win, the Sabres are now just three points behind league leaders KSV Highlanders.

Lakers Kärnten celebrated their third win in their eighth AWHL game. The hosts prevailed 3:1 over DEC Salzburg Eagles in an evenly matched contest. After a scoreless first period, the Carinthians took the lead in the second period, but the equaliser came shortly before the second intermission. Kelsey Soccio restored the Lakers’ lead after the restart, and it proved to be the game-winner. Kimberly Collard added the finishing touch with an empty-net goal.



European Women’s Hockey League

There was also an Austrian win in the European Women’s Hockey League on Sunday. KSV Highlanders beat Tauron Metropolia Silesia 5:2. The Styrians took a 2:1 lead into the first intermission. The visitors then effectively decided the game in the 40th minute, when Nikola Rumanova and Vanessa Picka struck twice within 16 seconds.
