The start of the Champions Hockey League has been postponed from 6 October to 17 November due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. The league announced this on Tuesday.

The knockout format for the upcoming season, featuring home-and-away ties and initially involving 32 clubs, is to be retained. The return leg will be played a day later, on 18 November. The higher-ranked team will have home advantage for both matches. Austria will be represented by spusu Vienna Capitals and Red Bull Salzburg.

Vienna will face Swiss side HC Davos in the first round, while Salzburg will take on Finnish club Tappara Tampere. From the quarter-finals and semi-finals onwards, home and away matches will take place as usual. The season will culminate in a single-match final on 9 February 2021.
