Squad update: Men / junior teams in action in NOR, HUN and SLO

There is one minor change to the men’s squad: following the absence of Benjamin Baumgartner, who was also most recently unavailable to his club Bern in the Swiss NLA, Oskar Maier of Pioneers Vorarlberg has been called up. All players met in Landshut this afternoon, where a session in the weights room was first on the agenda.

As announced by the IIHF at the weekend, the matches at the upcoming Deutschland Cup will already count towards the 2026 IIHF European Cup of Nations. According to the IIHF, this new format is intended to transform international breaks into a platform for meaningful, competitive international matches.

Together with the national member associations (MNAs), the IIHF will continue working on establishing the European Cup of Nations, with the long-term goal of developing a sustainable, marketable product that promotes both player development and fan engagement between major tournaments.

Women to face Olympic participants Italy
Exactly one year ahead of the 2026 IIHF Women's World Championship, the women’s national team will begin preparations for its inaugural appearance in the Top Division. In Bolzano, they will play a three-nation tournament against Norway and Olympic hosts Italy. Head Coach Alexander Bröms can also rely on his captain Anna Meixner, as well as numerous players with World Championship experience.

Important tests for the U20 ahead of the World Championship Division IA in December
The men also have several test matches on the agenda, with the U20 travelling to Norway for a four-nation tournament. At the start of December, the team will complete its final preparations for the U20 World Championship Division IA, which will be held in Bled (SLO) from 7 to 13 December. There, they will face Kazakhstan, Norway, Slovenia, France and Ukraine. “We need to be fully prepared again,” explains Head Coach Philipp Pinter.

The tournament in Stavanger, Norway, comes at just the right time. Latvia and Denmark, two Top Division nations, will also be taking part, while hosts Norway were relegated from the Top Division two years ago and, like Austria, want to return to the world’s top ten nations.

The U18 will also take part in a four-nation tournament. In Budapest (HUN), they will face Slovenia, Hungary and Italy. In spring 2026, Head Coach Peter Schweda’s team will battle for a return to Division IA at the World Championship Division IB. They will meet Italy again there at the latest.

The U20 and U18 matches will be streamed live via streaming.krone.at.

Like the U18, the U16 will also be in action in a neighbouring country. In Kranj (SLO), they will face Slovenia, Hungary and Italy, just like the U18.
