Squad announcement: Austria’s U20 begin World Championship preparations
Head Coach Philipp Pinter is bringing together 32 players in Ferlach on Monday to prepare for the World Championship Division IA, where they will also play two warm-up games against Slovenia and Norway on Wednesday and Thursday. The squad must then be reduced to 23 players before the tournament gets under way against hosts Slovenia in Bled (SLO) on 7 December.

“We have a lot planned this year,” Philipp Pinter says. The Villach native recalls last year, when the team narrowly missed out on promotion to the Top Division: “You can see, particularly among the players who were involved, that they are already raring to go.”
First, however, the final squad must be selected, Philipp Pinter says: “We have a very exciting squad, with numerous players who have already played at an U18 or U20 World Championship.”
According to Pinter, the right balance must be found for the World Championship: “We have a basic idea of the squad. Some players have the opportunity to prove themselves again and put themselves in the best possible position.”
In the two warm-up games against Slovenia and Norway in Ferlach next Wednesday and Thursday, there will be plenty of rotation so that every player has the chance to prove himself, promises the Head Coach.
He is also supported in this by Sporting Director Roger Bader, who is in constant contact with Philipp Pinter and will also be on site at the World Championship: “The first step now is for the coaching staff to get the team ready for the World Championship. As a coach, you always have a team in mind, but there are always one or two changes because players perform particularly well. Everyone should give it their all, fully commit and fight for their place.”
The final squad will be named after the two warm-up games, Philipp Pinter says: “We are very well stocked in every position. The competition for places will be fierce.”
