SPG Kitzbühel/Kufstein success­fully defend their DEBL 2 title!

For a long time, the grand DEBL 2 championship final at the Sepp-Puschnig-Halle in Klagenfurt remained level between the defending champions of SPG Kitzbühel/Kufstein and challengers Red Angels Innsbruck 0:0. The joint team were dominant and had more shots on goal, but Red Angels goaltender Johanna Mühlegger kept a clean sheet for a long time. Her counterpart at the other end, Leonie Eder, was every bit as good, but also had significantly less to do. 

Neither team made use of their power plays, resulting in an exciting game in the Carinthian capital, with the Red Angels standing firm defensively. That was until Tara Höfinger gave SPG Kitzbühel/Kufstein a 1:0 lead 56 seconds before the end of the second period (40th). Sylvia Dandlberger extended the lead to 2:0 in the final period (46th). Innsbruck then tried once again to get back into the game. 

However, the favourites sealed the result with the 3:0 four and a half minutes from time. Once again, Tara Höfinger made sure of the title defence with her second goal (56th minute). After ten wins in the regular season and victories in the semi-final and final, the Tyroleans completed a perfect season with twelve wins in total.

Third place goes to SPG IceCats LinzAG II/Sabres II

In the third-place game, SPG IceCats LinzAG II/Sabres II defeated the hosts, EC KAC-Damen II 4:1. The SPG pulled away in the opening period: Pamina Käferböck gave them a 1:0 lead (8th), before Ella Maierhofer made it 2:0 with a shorthanded goal (14th). Six seconds before the end of the period, Angelina Luger scored to make it 3:0 (20th). 

Just under a minute before the halfway point of the game, Ella Maierhofer set the course for victory and third place with her second goal. In the final period, the Rotjacken scored a consolation goal on the power play through Bianca Schabus (57th), which was also Klagenfurt’s first goal of the Final Four.
