Spec­tac­ular first NHL goal for ÖEHV forward Marco Kasper in Detroit defeat

The Red Wings had fallen behind early to a goal from Anaheim defenceman Olen Zellweger when the big moment for Marco Kasper followed: The centre came straight off the bench on the first power play, was set up perfectly by Joseph Taylor Compher and gave Ducks netminder John Gibson no chance with a powerful wrist shot into the short-side top corner to make it 1:1 after exactly 07:59 (>> watch the video on NHL.com). Just moments earlier, Kasper had already had a great chance to score his first NHL goal, but was denied from close range by Gibson's catching glove.

Kasper adds an assist

Detroit kept pushing and took a 2:1 lead through a goal by Jonatan Berggren — also on the power play — 44 seconds before the first horn. Marco Kasper provided the assist, registering his second point of the game in the process. The ÖEHV forward redirected the puck with his stick in front of goal to Vladimir Tarasenko, who set up Berggren with a superb cross-ice pass.

Lucas Raymond made it 3:1 for the team from the "Motor City" 65 seconds after the restart. Towards the end of the second period, Marco Kasper was sent to the penalty box for two minutes for tripping Olen Zellweger. Trevor Zegras used the man advantage to pull one back for the Californians, making it 2:3, before Troy Terry equalised again on the power play after almost four minutes of the final period. 

A quick double from Cutter Gauthier and Ross Johnston within 38 seconds saw the Ducks turn the game around for good and pull away to 5:3. With just under four minutes remaining, the Red Wings were back in the game: Alex DeBrincat scored on a power play to make it 4:5 and set up a thrilling finish. Ryan Strome sealed the result with an empty-net goal to make it 6:4 23 seconds from the end.

Strong performance in first two-point game of his career

In the first two-point game of his career, Kasper logged a total of 15:02 minutes of ice time in 19 shifts, had three shots on goal, blocked one shot and delivered one hit. 

Kasper registered his first point in his season debut on 19 October, in only his second NHL game overall, in the Detroit Red Wings' 5:2 road win over the Nashville Predators in the world's best ice hockey league.
