Salzburg take on Färjestad for a place in the Cham­pions Hockey League semi-finals

EC Red Bull Salzburg produced a magnificent performance two weeks ago. In the first leg of the quarter-finals, the reigning win2day ICE Hockey League champions deservedly prevailed 3:1 against Färjestad Karlstad.

Since then, Salzburg have played four league matches but suffered two defeats. They lost 2:3 in Linz on Sunday. Karlstad have played only two games in their home SHL since the first leg, winning one of them. The league took a break last week, meaning they will be well rested for Tuesday's CHL return leg. Färjestad remain in an impressive second place in the standings.

CHL playoff format

The top 16 teams from the 24-team field contest the playoff round of sixteen. 1st plays 16th, 2nd plays 15th, and so on. This determines the playoff bracket through to the final. Playoff ties are decided over two legs, with aggregate score deciding if the points are level. Only the final is played as a single, winner-takes-all match.
