Sabres St. Pölten reach the EWHL final

Sabres St. Pölten went into the second leg at regular-season champions PSR Bratislava trailing 1:2. However, the Austrians produced a combative display from the outset, with Lena Dauböck putting the visitors ahead in the eighth minute. Buoyed by the opening goal, the Sabres continued to apply plenty of pressure but were initially unable to add to their lead.

Bratislava grew into the game in the middle period, and Emilia Leskovjanska equalised in the 26th minute. However, the Sabres hit back in the 38th minute through Lena Artner, who made it 2:1. After a scoreless third period, with the aggregate score at 3:3, the decision had to be made in overtime. Hannah Tait finally secured victory and progression against the favoured Bratislava side in the 67th minute.

Sabres St. Pölten will therefore face Aisulu Almaty in the European Women’s Hockey League final on Friday, 21.03 (away), and Sunday, 23.03. Aisulu Almaty had already qualified for the finals on Saturday with an aggregate score of 5:4 against EVB Eagles South Tyrol.
