Sabres St. Pölten lose first leg of semi-final against HK PSRZ Bratislava

HK PSRZ Bratislava won the first leg of their European Women’s Hockey League semi-final away to Sabres St. Pölten 2:1 on Friday. The Slovak side scored the winner two minutes from time. Aisulu Almaty are confirmed as the first finalists of the current European Women’s Hockey League season. The Kazakh side lost the semi-final second leg against EVB Eagles South Tyrol 2:4, but progressed with an aggregate score of 5:4.

In an evenly matched and exciting game, Bratislava took the lead through Emilia Leskovjanska in the 32nd minute. Rylee Davison equalised for the Lower Austrians with a power-play goal in the third period. However, Ema Tothova scored the away winner two minutes from time. The Slovak side therefore have a very good starting position for the second leg on Sunday.

After their clear 3:0 win the previous day, Almaty were ultimately made to sweat over reaching the final. The Bolzano side took the lead after just two minutes, but a Lauren Nicholson double (16th, 25th) turned the game in Aisulu’s favour. Two Eagles goals within six minutes then swung the momentum back again – 2:3. Jacquie Pierri even scored a fourth goal for the South Tyrolean side in the third period. Despite good chances, Bolzano were unable to level the aggregate score, meaning Almaty are confirmed as the first finalists.
