Sabres St. Pölten, Bratislava, Bolzano and Aisulu reach EWHL semi-finals

The second-leg quarter-final matches in the European Women’s Hockey League took place on Sunday. While the three top-seeded teams, HK PSRZ Bratislava, Aisulu Almaty and EVB Eagles South Tyrol, advanced to the semi-finals, Sabres St. Pölten also progressed to the next round. The Villach Lady Hawks also recorded a victory in Salzburg in the final match of the win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League Qualification Round.

Following their 5:1 first-leg win, HK PSRZ Bratislava also won the second match against Budapest Jegkorong Akademia. The dominant Slovak side secured a 7:5 home victory on Sunday, with seven players getting on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Aisulu Almaty also lived up to their favourites’ tag against Tauron Metropolia Silesia, winning 8:2 on aggregate. The Kazakh side prevailed 3:1 in the second match, with Lauren Nicholson registering two goals and an assist.

The clash between EVB Eagles South Tyrol and KSV Highlanders could hardly have been more thrilling. After the Styrian side won the first meeting 4:3, Bolzano claimed the second match by the same scoreline. The game went to overtime, where Justine Reyes sealed the win with her third goal of the match.

Fifth-seeded Sabres St. Pölten won the series against MAC Budapest (#4). After their home win on Friday, the Lower Austrians also triumphed in Hungary. Emma McKnight scored twice in Sunday’s 4:3 victory.

The Qualification Round of the win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League also concluded on Sunday. The Villach Lady Hawks won 4:3 at the DEC Salzburg Eagles, with Julija Blazinsek and Liga Miljone each scoring twice. It was the Carinthians’ first win, although neither team had any chance of reaching the Final 4 before the game.
