Huber and Bärnthaler will be in action in Cardiff from 16 January to 19 January 2025. At the IIHF Continental Cup Final tournament, Kazakhstan's HC Arlan, French club Brûleurs de Loups, hosts Cardiff Devils and Poland's GKS Katowice will battle for the title. For the second consecutive year, the 3.088-capacity Vindico Arena will host the final.
ICE Hockey League professional referee Christoph Sternat is currently on international duty at the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division IA in Bled, Slovenia, where Austria's U20 men's national ice hockey team is also competing.
On Monday, Sternat officiated the game between hosts Slovenia and Norway alongside Canada's Adam Forbes, and on Tuesday he worked the France versus Hungary match with Finland's Otto Blomqvist. The U20 World Championship runs until Sunday, 15 December 2024.
Gerhard Schiffauer, ÖEHV Referee in Chief, is pleased with the development and performances: "Referees Andreas Huber and Christoph Bärnthaler have been nominated by the IIHF for the Continental Cup Final in Cardiff in January 2025. This appointment is an honour and, at the same time, recognition of their performances and the positive development of the game officials."
