As the Texans officially announced on Thursday, the 32-year-old has signed a one-year contract. The deal is set to earn Raffl 1,1 million US dollars.

"Michael has a strong physical presence on the ice and his experience will add depth to our lineup," the Stars said in their first statement.

The Carinthian was traded by the Flyers to the Capitals as recently as April 2021 and became a free agent when his contract expired in the summer. Last season, he collected a total of eleven points in 44 games.

In eight NHL seasons, Raffl made 514 regular-season appearances, recording a total of 163 points for the Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals. Raffl has also played 32 playoff games (8 points).

Dallas reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2020, where the Texans lost the series to Tampa Bay by a 2:4 score. However, the Stars missed out on the playoffs last season.

Alongside Raffl, the Stars have also strengthened in other positions. Defencemen Ryan Suter and Jani Hakanpää, forward Luke Glendening and goaltender Braden Holtby were signed. The 36-year-old Suter, who previously played for the Minnesota Wild, will receive 14,6 million dollars over four years.
