Raffl injured in Flyers win

A win and a defeat for Austria's NHL exports from Villach: Michael Raffl and the Philadelphia Flyers (26-17-6) claim a comfortable 4:1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings (18-27-5). Michael Grabner and the Arizona Coyotes (26-20-5) are thrashed 3:7 by the Edmonton Oilers (26-18-5). Both forwards from Carinthia have a quiet game and remain without a point.

31-year-old Raffl has to leave the ice midway through the final period after taking a heavy hit from lone scorer Dustin Brown behind the net. Raffl does return briefly, but remains on the bench carrying an injury for the closing stages. In the Flyers' home win over the bottom side in the Western Conference, Travis Konecny, who scores for 1:0 (4.) and 2:0 (24.), and James van Riemsdyk, with two assists and the goal to make it 4:1 (49./PP), are the players of the night.

The Coyotes, for whom Grabner plays just 9:52 minutes and registers one shot on goal, are swept off the ice in Edmonton. The Oilers lead 5:0 after 25 minutes in the Pacific Division clash before taking their foot off the gas. 28-year-old Riley Sheahan records four points in an NHL game for the first time, shining for the "Oilmen" with one goal and three assists. Connor McDavid extends his lead in the NHL scoring race with two goals. The 23-year-old centre has 76 points (27 goals and 49 assists) after 49 games this season.

Russian ice hockey superstar Alexander Ovechkin has entered the ranks of the ten leading goalscorers in NHL history with his hat-trick. The 34-year-old scores NHL goals number 690 to 692 in the Washington Capitals' 6:4 win at the New York Islanders on Saturday. Ovechkin moves ahead of previous tenth-placed Mario Lemieux and draws level with Steve Yzerman in ninth place. Eighth-placed Mark Messier (694) is also no longer far away. Ice hockey legend Wayne Gretzky tops the ranking with 894 goals.
