Raffl and Capitals fall short
Washington miss out on a place in the second round of the play-offs. Villach native Michael Raffl is not in the line-up for the fifth game against Boston.

The NHL season is over for Michael Raffl and the Washington Capitals. The team from the capital lost 1:3 to the Boston Bruins in Game Five of the first round of the Stanley Cup Play-offs, and consequently lost the best-of-seven series 1:4. After a goalless first period, David Pastrnak gave the visitors the lead in the 23rd minute, before Patrice Bergeron (35th) made it 2:0.
Conor Sheary pulls one back just eleven seconds into the final period. With his second goal, Bergeron puts the game beyond doubt eight minutes from time and seals the Bruins’ fourth consecutive win. Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask plays a major part in the victory, stopping 40 of 41 shots on his goal, while opposite number Ilya Samsonov concedes three goals from just 19 shots. Villach native Raffl is not in the Capitals’ squad.
In the second game of the evening, the Winnipeg Jets beat the Edmonton Oilers 5:4 in overtime to take a 3:0 series lead. Nikolaj Ehlers was the match-winner in overtime.
