PWHL Draft: Anna Meixner picked by Ottawa at #32

The two will not be hunting for goals together, however, as Schafzahl was picked by Boston last year, while Anna Meixner is heading to Canada, the birthplace of ice hockey. More precisely, to Ottawa.

The Zell native, who will turn 30 in a few days, was picked 32nd overall in the sixth of seven rounds. “Competing against and playing with the best players in the world would be a dream come true for me,” Meixner said ahead of the draft.

Most recently, Anna Meixner played for Brynäs IF in the Swedish league and was named SDHL Player of the Year in the 2022/2023 season.

Ottawa finished the regular season of the PWHL’s inaugural campaign in 5th place. Theresa Schafzahl, who scored Boston’s first goal at the start of the season in January to secure her place in the history books, lost to Minnesota in the final.

Anna Meixner’s next step is Ottawa’s training camp, where she will battle for a contract: "It was a long, intense night. I was getting a little nervous towards the end, but now I’m all the more delighted. I’m happy to be going to Canada. Ottawa are a really cool team, with players I already know."
