Pewal takes charge of the U20 team

Marco Pewal will serve as head coach of the Austrian U20 national team next season. Sporting director Roger Bader has appointed the Villach native to the role. The season will once again feature participation in the IIHF U20 World Championship Top Division in Canada – with Edmonton and Red Deer as the host cities – as its highlight.

"Continuity is very important for the national teams. Marco has been part of the national teams' coaching staff since 2018. Initially, he was an assistant and later head coach of the U20. He has my full confidence. Together, we will assemble the staff and discuss the season programme in the coming days and weeks, taking the currently available budget into account," says sporting director Bader, who will serve as team manager at the U20 World Championship.

"I feel honoured to take on this role and be head coach of the U20. I am looking forward to the challenges of this season, including the highlight in Edmonton," said Pewal, who will shortly begin planning for the 2021/22 season.

Format
As all other U20 World Championship tournaments for the 2020/21 season have been cancelled, there will be neither promotion nor relegation this year. Therefore, there will also be no relegation games involving the fifth-placed teams in the groups in Edmonton. All participants will also play in the IIHF U20 Top Division in Canada in the 2021/22 season.
