Para Ice Hockey World Championship: Austria end World Championship with a 5:0 win over hosts Thailand

A conciliatory finish for Austria’s Para Ice Hockey national team: after three defeats to date, they claimed their first win of the tournament in their final game of the 2022 World Championship against hosts Thailand, winning 5:0 to finish the World Championship in 4th place.

Austria’s Para national team missed their self-set target of a medal on their return to the international stage, but demonstrated the potential within the team in every game. Against Thailand, they were able to realise that potential almost in full, laying the foundations for success in the first period, which they won 3:0.

They extended their lead to 5:0 after the first break. In particular, following the bitter 2:9 defeat to Kazakhstan the previous day, this was a clear response.

Head Coach Lucas Herrnegger: "The team fought as they did in every game. This time, we had more puck possession, which allowed us to shape the game. We can be satisfied with today’s win and leave Thailand with a good feeling. Overall, we are taking many insights from this World Championship that we need to build on in order to improve. It is particularly positive that the team never gave up and was always well organised. It was definitely an experience to play ice hockey here in Bangkok."
