Para ice hockey — Joint devel­op­ment in focus

Following a joint training session with Hungary and Slovakia on Friday evening, the head-to-head clashes took place on Saturday. In an evenly matched opening game against Slovakia, our neighbours ultimately edged it 5:4. Austria pulled their goalkeeper late on in an attempt to equalise, but without success.

They were clearly superior in the second game against Hungary, also owing to the fact that Hungary's Para Ice Hockey programme is somewhat younger than Austria's. Despite tiring, as the game followed directly after the one against Slovakia, they were in control and celebrated a 14:1 victory.

On Sunday morning, all players were mixed up and divided into two teams. Off the ice, the three federations exchanged views with Michelle LaFlamme and discussed the future and development of para ice hockey. Austria, Hungary and Slovakia in particular want to further intensify and expand their cooperation in this area.

Gee Goll, Interim Head Coach: "Overall, it was a great camp. In the first game, we had a few problems finding our way into the game at the start. That improved as the game went on and we created good chances. After the 4:5 against Slovakia, we went straight on to face Hungary. You could tell that the opposition were weaker, as the team has not been around for very long. At the same time, it was clear that very good work is being done there. We were able to test a number of things this weekend and gain valuable experience and insights."
