In 2023, the Highlanders became only the third club to add their name to the list of ÖSM women’s champions, after Sabres Wien had won the title 18 times and Ravens Salzburg twice. Their bid to defend the title came to an end following the 1:8 defeat to the Graz Huskies.
The Styrians dominated the game from the very first second. Katharina Schellnegger kept her team in the game with no fewer than 25 saves in the first period, conceding only once in the opening 20 minutes. In the middle period, the Huskies were more clinical in front of goal, extending their lead to 4:1 before seeing out the final period without any further danger.
Last year’s finalist KEHV Lakers hosts SKN Sabres St. Pölten in the second semi-final on Friday at 20:30.
