One for the history books: Sabres St. Pölten win the first game in the win2day AWHL

The win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League has had its premiere, and it did not take long for the first goalscorer in the new women’s league to be confirmed: Canadian Hannah Tait scored the first of her three goals as early as the third minute.

The home side from St. Pölten extended their lead to 3:0 in the opening period. At the start of the middle period, Tait completed her hat-trick to make it 4:0. After the Sabres made it 5:0, the Highlanders also got on the scoresheet for the first time, still in the middle period. The game ultimately ended 5:1.

Bratislava beat Lakers Kärnten in the EWHL

The European Women’s Hockey League was also in action on Friday. Lakers Kärnten made their EWHL season debut against HK PSRZ Bratislava. The start appeared promising from the home side’s perspective, as they took a 2:0 lead. Bratislava then shifted into top gear, however, and had turned it around to 8:2 by the 47th minute. Bratislava ultimately celebrated an 8:3 victory and remain unbeaten in the European Women’s Hockey League after three games.
