Olmütz Cup 2024: Para National Team opens tour­na­ment with defeat against SOHO Olomouc

Austria's para ice hockey national team has begun its preparations in the Czech Republic for the 2024 World Para Ice Hockey Championships C-Pool. In the opening game, hosts SOHO Olomouc were clearly superior and scored some beautifully worked goals.

The team led by Head Coach Lucas Herrnegger was primarily occupied with defensive work, but the consolation goal was also an absolute highlight: following a quick and superbly executed counter-attack, Sandro Kalegaris scored Austria's first goal of the tournament with the score at 0:9. 

At the fifth edition of the Olmütz Cup, Austria will still face the Czech Junior Team in the group stage at Zimní stadion Olomouc, before concluding against Rennes Cormorans from France. The aim is to finish in the top two and therefore reach the semi-finals. Group B features the South Tyrol Eagles (ITA), Team Kazakhstan, Para Hockey Finland and Para Hockey Havířov.

For the ÖEHV selection, this tournament marks the start of preparations for the World Championship, which will take place in Bangkok from 26 November to 30 November 2024. There, the ÖEHV selection will face hosts Thailand, Finland and Australia.
