Offi­cial: Austria’s women’s national team will play at the 2026 World Cham­pi­onship in Denmark!

With five wins, one of them in overtime, Austria’s women’s national ice hockey team confidently secured first place at the World Championship Division IA in Shenzhen (CHN) on 19 April 2025, making Austrian ice hockey history in the process. Promotion to the Top Division was achieved for the first time, meaning that both national teams will be represented in the highest World Championship category simultaneously for the first time in 2026.

The team coached by Head Coach Alexander Bröms will play at the World Championship in Denmark from 06 to 16 November 2026. One group will play in Herning – where Austria’s men played their quarter-final against Switzerland in May – while a second host venue has yet to be confirmed and, like the official schedule, will only be announced by the IIHF.

The November date was chosen because, for the first time in women’s ice hockey, the World Championship will also be played during an Olympic winter. The group draw has already been made. The ÖEHV side will face world champions USA, Czechia, Switzerland and Germany in Group A.

2026 IIHF Women's World Championship:

06 November 2026 - 16 November 2026, Herning (DEN). The second venue and the schedule have yet to be announced.
