ÖEL: UHT Dukes Graz confirm participation

The Ö Eishockey Liga gets underway again in October. Following VEU Feldkirch, UHT Dukes Graz will now also be on board for the new season. The Styrians complete the three regional groups – West, South and North-East – each of which will enter the regular season with six teams.

The new season of the Ö Eishockey Liga begins in October. The format remains unchanged in its second year. The regular season will be played in three regional groups (West Group, South Group and North-East Group), each with six teams. Following the admission of VEU Feldkirch to the West Group, the North-East Group is now also complete: UHT Dukes Graz has confirmed its participation in this year's ÖEL Championship, meaning that 18 teams will take part in the 2022/2023 ÖEL Championship. After the regular season, the championship title will be contested in an interregional playoff.

The first season, featuring 16 teams from six federal states (Styria, Carinthia, Upper Austria, Vienna, Tyrol and Vorarlberg), offered everything ice hockey fans in Austria could wish for: attractive, high-scoring games that were at times emotionally charged in the playoffs. In the end, WSG Swarovski Wattens - Penguins prevailed over Kapfenberger SV in the final, which, like the preceding playoffs, was played in the Champions Hockey League format with home and away legs, winning 6:3 on aggregate (2:2, 4:1) to become the first champions of the Ö Eishockey Liga.

As in the inaugural season, the ÖEL regular season in Carinthia/East Tyrol is also the Carinthian AHC Division 1 in the South Group. Following the regular season, a separate playoff will be played alongside the ÖEL to crown the AHC Division 1 champions. The Ö Eishockey Liga season begins in early October. The exact schedule for the new season will be published in the coming days.
