ÖEL: Group North-East opens new season

Kapfenberger SV – Eishockeyclub narrowly missed out in the Ö Eishockey Liga final last March. A 2:2 draw in the first leg and a 4:1 win in the second leg secured WSG Swarovski Wattens - Penguins the inaugural title. While the defending champions enter league action on 15 October, Kapfenberg open the new season at home against ATSE Graz - Hockey on 8 October.

The remaining fixtures in Matchday 1 of the ÖEL regular season in Group North-East: EV Zeltweg - Murtal Lions vs. Wiener Eislauf-Verein and UHT DUKES Graz vs. UEHV „RAUCH Technology“ Sharks Gmunden.

Matches will be played weekly until 17 December. Following a short break over Christmas and New Year, the remaining five rounds will be played from 7 January 2023 to 4 February.

The top 3 advance to the quarter-finals, which, as will subsequently be the case for the semi-finals and final, will be played over two legs.

Ö Eishockey Liga format

Regular season
A double round-robin format will be played in the West Group, while the North-East Group and South Group will play a one-and-a-half round-robin format. At the end of the regular season, the top three teams from the West Group, the top three teams from the North-East Group and the top two teams from the South Group will make up the playoff match-ups.

Quarter-finals
One home and one away game in each tie. The team with the better aggregate score advances.

Semi-finals
One home and one away game in each tie. The team with the better aggregate score advances.

Final
One home and one away game in each tie. The team with the better aggregate score is ÖEL champion.
