ÖEL: EC LiWoDruck Spittal host EC iDM VSV in the opener on 21 October
Carinthia and East Tyrol are eager to get back on the ice. On 21 October 2022, the South Group begins the regular season in the second season of the Ö Eishockey Liga. EC LiWoDruck Spittal face EC iDM VSV in the opener. ÖEL games will be shown on the Austrian Ice Hockey Federation's new live-streaming platform at live.eishockey.at.

The Carinthian clubs head into the second edition of the Ö Eishockey Liga highly motivated. In the first season, 1. EHC Althofen reached the semi-finals, where they fell only narrowly in overtime in the second leg, despite a sensational comeback, to eventual champions WSG Swarovski Wattens - Penguins (5:4 on aggregate for the Tyroleans).
ESC SoccerZone Steindorf also put in a strong performance in the quarter-finals against Kapfenberger SV, losing 9:12 on aggregate to the Styrians after two memorable games. Kapfenberger SV ultimately progressed to the final and claimed the runners-up title.
During the regular season, the South Group will play a one-and-a-half-round home-and-away schedule, running until 4 February 2023. The top 2 teams in the South Group will advance to the quarter-finals, which, as will the semi-finals and final, will be played over two legs in the Champions Hockey League format.

Ö Eishockey Liga format
Regular season
A double round robin will be played in the West Group, while the North-East Group and South Group will play one and a half round robins. At the end of the regular season, the top three teams from the West Group, the top three teams from the North-East Group and the top two teams from the South Group will form the play-off match-ups.
Quarter-finals
One home and one away match each. The team with the better aggregate score advances.
Semi-finals
One home and one away match each. The team with the better aggregate score advances.
Final
One home and one away match each. The team with the better aggregate score is Ö Eishockey Liga champion.
