Hungary started the game at a high tempo, which initially caught the Austrians by surprise. Goaltender Selma Luggin kept her team from falling behind in the first period.
Although the team coached by Mario Bellina, who is deputising for head coach Alexander Bröms in Villach, found their way into the game better after the first break, they fell 0:1 behind in the 25th minute.
The Austrians, who are playing the two friendlies against Hungary without captain Anna Meixner, adapted to the tempo better with each shift. This resulted in several well-worked chances, but they were unable to find the net.
Instead, the visitors scored to make it 2:0 in the 59th minute. They will have the chance for revenge as early as Saturday at 15:30.
Mario Bellina: "We were caught slightly by surprise by the tempo at the start of the game. The Hungarians came flying out of the blocks and we were not ready yet. It improved with each shift. Especially in the final period, we were already very close to the tempo that we will face at the World Championship. That is what we are working towards. Our aim is to start the game better tomorrow and get more pucks to the net from the outset."
