ÖEHV Vice-Pres­i­dent Yasmin Stepina elected to the ÖOC Exec­u­tive Board

“Ice hockey is one of Austria’s most traditional and popular sports. ÖEHV itself is one of Austria’s largest specialist sports federations and has always been represented on the ÖOC Executive Board in previous terms as well. The new Executive Board is younger and more female. In Yasmin Stepina, the ÖOC and Austrian sport are gaining a highly qualified woman who is responsible within ÖEHV, among other things, for women’s ice hockey, which is on the rise. It was one of our clear objectives to continue to be represented on the ÖOC Executive Board, and I am pleased that this election proposal has been accepted,” explains ÖEHV President Klaus Hartmann.

Yasmin Stepina played for the Sabres from 1999 to 2008, won multiple championships and also took to the ice for the Austrian national team, with whom she achieved promotion from Division II to Division I in 2008. After her active career, she worked as a coach with several youth selections and has been responsible for the areas of women’s hockey, parasport and sports medicine as an ÖEHV Vice-President since 2020.

In addition to her successes on the ice, the Carinthian also demonstrated her sporting talent in sailing, winning Austrian championship titles in various classes.

The 36-year-old works in the Climate and Energy Department of the City of Baden. The newly elected ÖOC Executive Board comprises three winter sports and eight summer sports, as well as three team sports and eight individual sports. In addition, four ball sports and seven federal states are represented, compared with five previously.

Yasmin Stepina: “As one of three winter and team sports on the newly elected Executive Board, we consider it our duty, on the one hand, to advocate for Austrian sport as a whole and, in particular, to represent the interests of winter and team sports within the Olympic Movement. Athletes must always be at the heart of all our activities and efforts. They are the ones we work for. I am looking forward to this new role, which also entails a great deal of responsibility.”
