The Austrian Ice Hockey Association supports preserving Vienna’s Eisstadthalle

The Austrian Ice Hockey Association (ÖEHV) has stated its clear support for preserving Vienna’s Eisstadthalle. The long-established indoor ice rink is at risk of permanent closure.

The ÖEHV supports the ‘Save the Eisstadthalle!’ petition to Vienna’s Municipal Council and State Parliament, which calls for a comprehensive renovation and modernisation plan for the arena as well as the necessary funding.

From youth hockey and recreational leagues to public skating and club activities, the Eisstadthalle has been a central home for ice sports in Vienna for generations. Losing the arena would place further pressure on the city’s already limited ice-rink capacity.

ÖEHV Managing Director Alexander Helwig: ‘Every additional ice rink we lose causes lasting damage to ice hockey in Austria. It affects professional and elite sport just as much as opportunities for young people to be active. Following the closure in Mödling, the situation in eastern Austria is becoming increasingly critical.’

The ÖEHV calls on the City of Vienna’s decision-makers to make a clear commitment to preserving the Eisstadthalle and to take the necessary steps towards a sustainable renovation without delay. The ÖEHV encourages all ice hockey fans, clubs and sports enthusiasts to support the petition.
