ÖEHV relaunches Mentoring Programme

Launched in 2014, the Mentoring Programme was an immediate success. Eight events per calendar year have been and continue to be held. “Every Austrian ICE Hockey League club hosts once a year, which results in these eight events per year,” explains ÖEHV Sports Director Roger Bader. 

The Mentoring Programme includes a half-day coaching course, with presentations by the Sports Director himself as well as ÖEHV Head of Youth Education and Development Florian Mühlstein.

At the subsequent parents’ evening, players’ parents have the opportunity to engage directly with Roger Bader. The Sports Director first presents the responsibilities of ÖEHV, explains the youth development pathway from U14 to U20, the national team criteria and the key skills players need in their development, before joining Florian Mühlstein to answer questions at the end.

“Over the course of the entire year, we reach around 150 coaches and around 300 parents in person. This promotes communication between the clubs, the regional associations and ÖEHV itself. We also specifically address parents’ need to exchange ideas with those responsible,” says Roger Bader, offering an insight into the purpose of the Mentoring Programme.

Moser Medical Graz99ers had the honour of becoming the first post-pandemic hosts. More than 20 coaches took part in the coaching course, which also counts as further training towards obtaining the respective coaching licence.

The 45-minute presentations covered “The Role of the Coach”, “Training Planning”, “Small Area Games” and season planning.

ÖEHV Sports Director Roger Bader: “I am very happy and satisfied with the restart. I set off on my journey home with a good feeling. From my perspective, Wednesday was very productive. I am pleased that we were able to restart this programme, and it is also a clear distinction for ÖEHV to offer such a platform.”
