ÖEHV loses 72% of its TV media value with the discon­tin­u­a­tion of ORF SPORT +

“Given that we have existing sponsorship agreements and are working intensively to expand our sponsor portfolio, this announcement feels like a slap in the face,” says ÖEHV President Klaus Hartmann reflecting the mood within the Ice Hockey Federation, before continuing: “ORF has a statutory remit. We will pull out all the stops to ensure that the sport does not lose visibility and public awareness. The discontinuation of the specialist channel ORF SPORT + is a step backwards. Within the sports federations, we must and will stand together and use every means at our disposal to ensure that our media presence is not lost.”

"In figures, this means: In the 2021/2022 season, of the approximately 77 hours of ice hockey coverage relating to ÖEHV and its national teams, no fewer than 73 hours were broadcast on ORF SPORT +, equivalent to 95 per cent (!!!). In terms of TV media value, almost 72 per cent is therefore attributable to the specialist channel. The loss of ORF SPORT + without an adequate replacement would result in a loss of TV media value running into millions,” explains ÖEHV Managing Director Bernhard Friedrich .

Not least because of these figures, ÖEHV is committed to preserving the specialist channel and supports all initiatives to continue ORF SPORT +. “ORF SPORT + is an important platform for all sports in terms of visibility, reach and advertising value. Together with Sport Austria and all specialist federations, we are in favour of continuing the specialist channel and support all initiatives,” explains ÖEHV Managing Director Bernhard Friedrich.
