ÖEHV forward Marco Rossi selected for NHL All-Rookie Team

The 22-year-old from Vorarlberg received 145 votes from the 192 journalists. Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks, Rossi’s team-mate Brock Faber – a defenceman with Minnesota Wild – and New Jersey Devils defenceman Luke Hughes each received all 192 votes. Logan Cooley of the Arizona Coyotes and Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov also made the All-Rookie Team.

Marco Rossi, who recorded six points for Austria at the World Championship in Prague – five assists and the historic equaliser to make it 6:6 in the final period against Canada – totalled 40 points in 82 games in his first full NHL season. He scored 21 goals and registered 19 assists. With his 21 goals, the Feldkirch native was just one goal behind new superstar Connor Bedard, who scored 22 times for the Chicago Blackhawks. 

Rossi also led the rookies in face-off wins in 2023/2024, winning 335 face-offs, 58 more than the second-best player in this statistic. The centre also took the most face-offs, with 749.

Rossi was drafted ninth overall by Minnesota in 2020. He made his NHL debut on 6 January 2022, but after two appearances in the 2021/2022 season, Rossi had to join the Iowa Wild farm team. In the 2022/2023 season, No. 23 made 19 appearances before making his definitive breakthrough last season.

The only Austrian to have previously made the NHL All-Rookie Team was Michael Grabner, who was selected while with the New York Islanders in the 2010/2011 season.
