ÖEHV captain Anna Meixner scores her first PWHL goal for Ottawa Charge!

In the fifth and final game before the Christmas break, the time had finally come: ÖEHV captain Anna Meixner scored her first goal in the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) for Ottawa Charge. Just one game after the historic first-ever all-Austrian clash against Theresa Schafzahl (Boston Fleet), the Salzburg native put the team from the Canadian capital 1:0 ahead – also her first official PWHL point. Ottawa ultimately lost 2:5 to Minnesota Frost.

In Ottawa's game in front of 4.686 fans at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul – also home to Marco Rossi's Minnesota Wild in the NHL – Anna Meixner this time started on the right wing of the third line alongside centre Shiann Darkangelo, with Czech forward Tereza Vanišová on the left wing.

After exactly 07:51, Meixner deflected a shot by Jincy Roese to make it 1:0 for Ottawa Charge. "MEIXY GETS HER FIRST IN THE PW!!" Ottawa Charge's social media department wrote in an Instagram story a few minutes later, celebrating the first goal by the ÖEHV forward from Zell am See.

Meixner logged a total of 09:19 minutes of ice time for Ottawa and registered two shots on goal. After Theresa Schafzahl, the Salzburg native is the second Austrian woman to score a goal in the women's professional league founded in 2023.

After Minnesota Frost equalised in the first period, they turned the game around with two further goals in the middle period. In the end, Head Coach Ken Klee's team won 5:2 and currently sits top of the standings. Meixner's Ottawa Charge has four points from five games, with one win, one overtime loss and three defeats, and is currently in fifth place.

The two Austrian PWHL players return to action after Christmas. Theresa Schafzahl and Boston Fleet face the Toronto Sceptres on 27 December, while Anna Meixner and Ottawa Charge play away to the New York Sirens on 29 December.
