ÖEHV appoints Gina Kingsbury as the new General Manager of the women’s national team

The Austrian Ice Hockey Federation is delighted to introduce Gina Kingsbury as the new General Manager of the women’s national team. The 44-year-old Canadian will take sporting responsibility for the team that will make its first appearance in the top division of the Women’s World Championship in November 2026. For the time being, Kingsbury will take up this position with ÖEHV until the finals in Denmark, while also being available to the women’s national team in an advisory capacity at various other competitions.

Kingsbury looks back on a long and successful career in international women’s ice hockey. As a player, she won Olympic gold with Canada, and later served as General Manager of Canada’s women’s national team at Hockey Canada for eight years, winning Olympic gold in 2022 as well as three world titles (2021, 2022, 2024). Since September 2023, Kingsbury has been General Manager of the Toronto Sceptres in the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL).

First meeting in Klagenfurt

The players have already had the opportunity to get to know Kingsbury during an extensive video conference. Their first in-person meeting will now take place this week in Klagenfurt, where the ÖEHV women will gather for a four-day training camp (1st to 4th October). The focus will be on a detailed evaluation of the player pool. Decisions on the staff and the World Championship squad will be made after the training camp.

In addition to the internationally successful Kingsbury, ÖEHV has also secured a second major name. Melody Davidson, who won four consecutive Olympic gold medals with Canada’s women’s national team, will accompany Austria’s national team players at the top-division World Championship in Denmark (6th to 16th November) in an advisory role.
