No settlement: Kurier unilaterally terminates agreement
On 10 October, ÖEHV and Kurier agreed in court to settle the lawsuit brought by ÖEHV against the daily newspaper by publishing a joint statement. That deal has now fallen through, as Kurier was not prepared to compromise within the stipulated deadline.

For its part, the ÖEHV would have been prepared to reach a generous compromise and would even have covered € 1.500.- in legal costs incurred by the other side. It showed maximum commitment, which has been rejected by Kurier.
ÖEHV remains calm about the court proceedings that now lie ahead, particularly as the article in question contained clear misrepresentations and value judgements without any factual basis.
What happened?
In spring 2025, the ÖEHV filed a lawsuit against KURIER over some inaccurate and some misleadingly incomplete factual claims in the article “Frosty Future in Ice Hockey”, published in the 1 April 2025 edition.
The court hearing was scheduled for 10 October. In court, it was agreed that the dispute would be settled if a joint statement were published within three weeks. ÖEHV was also prepared to cover the other side’s legal costs amounting to € 1.500.-.
Despite ÖEHV’s efforts, Kurier was not prepared to honour the agreement and draft a joint statement.
The case will now be heard in court.
