Next U20 World Cham­pi­onship once again in Canada

The North Americans will therefore take over hosting duties for the 47th edition, which was originally awarded to Russia. Due to the war in Ukraine and Russia's exclusion from all IIHF competitions, Russia was also stripped of the right to host the tournament.

Canada will therefore host the U20 World Championship three times in a row. In 2021, it was played in Edmonton behind closed doors due to the COVID19 pandemic. Last winter, the U20 World Championship 2022 in Edmonton and Red Deer had to be abandoned due to numerous positive COVID19 cases.

It is to be made up this coming August. The U20 World Championship 2023 is scheduled to take place in Halifax and Moncton from 26 December 2022 to 5 January 2023. ÖEHV Men's Sporting Director Roger Bader: "This is, of course, an extraordinary situation, with two U20 World Championships taking place in Canada within a few months. There is a strong likelihood that we will go into the World Championship in August and then again in December with two different coaching staffs."
