New cooperation agreement between federation and league

The Austrian Ice Hockey Federation and the win2day ICE Hockey League are setting the course for a successful future for ice hockey with a new cooperation agreement. The agreement initially runs for three seasons and can be extended by both sides for a further two seasons.

Over the past few weeks, representatives of the Austrian Ice Hockey Federation and the win2day ICE Hockey League have worked out the key points of the new cooperation agreement in several project groups. This continues the successful collaboration in the interests of domestic ice hockey.

The federation and league have agreed on new roster regulations, under which, from the 2022/23 season, each of the eight Austrian clubs must list twelve players eligible for the ÖEHV team on the game sheet, at least two of whom must be in the U24 age group. This regulation also applies to the other participating league nations.

In order to achieve the objective of staying in the top division at the 2023 World Championship as well, the federation has been guaranteed a preparation period of 14 days before its first World Championship match.

ÖEHV President Dr Klaus Hartmann: “I have always been convinced that we can only further develop the overall product of ‘Austrian ice hockey’ and make it fit for the future through coordinated joint efforts between the federation and the league. It was important to me that the cooperation agreement should bear an Austrian hallmark in terms of developing domestic player, coaching and referee talent. This has certainly been achieved through the introduction of the new roster regulation, AKES (training compensation system), the minimum quota of Austrian clubs and the requirement for clubs to have licensed head coaches.”

It is pleasing that we were able to agree on a long-term solution in the interests of planning certainty. This lays the foundation for further success in Austrian ice hockey. With 21 players from the win2day ICE Hockey League, we too made our contribution to success at the World Championship and once again demonstrated the high sporting standard in our league,” saidLeague President Kommerzialrat Mag. Jochen Pildner-Steinburg pleased with the agreement.
