Not many championships were decided on Austrian soil in the Covid-19-plagued 2019/20 season. One that was able to be completed, however, was the 1st Women's Bundesliga. The Neuberg Highlanders confidently secured the title in February with two wins over KMH Budapest.
The new season, played under Covid-19 regulations, gets under way on Sunday. The defending champions open their campaign away to Devils Graz in the Styrian derby. MAC Budapest host the Junior Capitals "Flyers". The match between Kitzbühel/Kufstein and Ice Cats Linz has been postponed.
In the European Women's Hockey League, the next Austrian clash takes place on Saturday. KEHV Lakers face Salzburg Eagles, who have plenty to make up for after last week's 2:7 defeat to Sabres Wien.
