After two days of training in Villach, the Austrian women's U17 national team will also play two friendlies against Switzerland to conclude the first camp of the season in Villach, the future location of the Federal Performance Centre for women's ice hockey.
On Friday afternoon, the hosts claimed a narrow 2:1 victory after a penalty shoot-out in a closely contested encounter. Switzerland took the lead through Leonie Balzer in the first period, but Tamina Schall sent Austria into overtime just over ten minutes from the end.
After a scoreless overtime, a penalty shoot-out had to decide the game. Goaltender Magdalena Luggin and Schall kept their nerve, with the latter scoring the decisive goal for the 2:1 victory.
"The team implemented the instructions well, but we still need to improve our play without the puck," said interim coach Florian Mühlstein. "The pace steadily increased on both sides. In the end, it was a game from which both teams could learn."
The second game between Austria and Switzerland starts as early as 12:00 on Saturday, Sport-Fan will once again provide a live stream of the game.
