KSV High­landers win top clash against Sabres St. Pölten in the win2day AWHL

League leaders KSV Highlanders also won their second game of the weekend in the win2day Austrian Women´s Hockey League. After their 6:2 victory over Salzburg on Saturday, the Styrians defeated second-placed Sabres St. Pölten 3:0 on Sunday. The Highlanders therefore handed the Sabres their first defeat of the season.

With six points, the Lower Austrians are nine points behind the league leaders, although they have played three fewer games. In the first meeting of the season on 27 September, the Sabres had come out on top 5:1.

It was also the Highlanders' only defeat in the AWHL so far. Fans at the Kapfenberg Sportzentrum witnessed an evenly matched contest on Sunday. The Highlanders took the lead in the 26th minute, before scoring again in the 54th minute. The final decision came in the 57th minute. KSV netminder Viktorie Horinkova shone with 38 saves. It was her first shutout in her third appearance.

Lakers Kärnten win in Bolzano

In the European Women’s Hockey League, Lakers Kärnten visited second-placed EVB Eagles South Tyrol on Sunday. The seventh-placed side caused an upset with a 3:2 away win.

For the South Tyrolean side, it was only their second defeat in regulation time in ten games. The Bolzano team had led both 1:0 and 2:1. However, with twelve and a half minutes remaining, Alina Hinum put the visitors ahead for the first time, and they did not relinquish the lead until the final whistle.
