EC-KAC were the dominant team in this season's Austrian U18 Championship. The Klagenfurt side were only briefly knocked off course in the play-offs, when they had to concede defeat to Eishockey Akademie Oberösterreich in the second game of the quarter-final series.
In the remaining play-off games, however, the "Rotjacken" demonstrated their dominance. This was also the case in the "best-of-five" final series against the Vienna Capitals, which ended with three wins and a "sweep" for the Klagenfurt side.
After home wins of 7:0 and 7:4, EC-KAC travelled to Vienna for the third final game on 20 March. The Capitals made a good start and took a 1:0 lead after two minutes. However, Klagenfurt equalised just three minutes later.
Everything happened quickly in the middle period and the Carinthians pulled away to 5:1. The game was effectively decided, and in the end they secured a 6:2 away win and successfully defended the U18 title for EC-KAC. Klagenfurt's Ian Scherzer scored twice in each of the three final games.
