KAC crown them­selves cham­pions

It is done – the EC-KAC crown themselves champions in the fifth ICE Hockey League final!

The “Red Jackets” were above all the more disciplined team, converted three of their four power-play opportunities and, following a 5:3 win (1:1,2:1,2:1), celebrated the 32nd Austrian title in the club’s history. Captain Manuel Ganahl: “What a team performance. I’m so happy that we got this done.” Following the title in 2019 and the 2019/20 season, which was abandoned during the play-offs due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Klagenfurt side have effectively defended their title.

“On behalf of the Austrian Ice Hockey Federation, I would like to warmly congratulate EC-KAC on winning their 32nd Austrian championship title and on their triumph in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. Losing only one game in each play-off series reflects the enormous strength and determination shown by KAC in the decisive phase of the championship,” congratulated ÖEHV President Dr Klaus Hartmann.

Shortly after winning the title, there was double cause for celebration for one KAC player, as Nick Petersen was named the most valuable player (“MVP”) of the play-offs and won the vote, which was held among specialist journalists for the first time. The Canadian finished the season as the leading scorer in both the play-offs and the entire league.

Petersen collected 70 points in total (29 goals, 41 assists), with 23 of them coming in the final championship phase (ten goals, 13 assists). The second MVP title awarded also went to EC-KAC, after goalkeeper Sebastian Dahm had already been voted “Most Valuable Player” following the regular season.
