A final series could not be any more exciting. After both teams had won their respective home games, the score was 2:2 heading into the decisive fifth game. Vienna Capitals’ U15 side had taken the lead on the first final weekend with two 4:2 victories on 11 and 12 March, but KAC responded in Klagenfurt the following weekend with two wins, one by 5:1 and one by 5:2.

The series thus became a best-of-one. Vienna Capitals took a 1:0 lead through Ben Karner in the tenth minute. As the first period progressed, the Carinthians took control. However, the young Red Jackets did not manage to score until the second period.

Shortly after a power play had expired, Tristan Schall poked the puck over the line for the 1:1 equaliser in the 23th minute. Just 63 seconds later, Julian Herrnhofer scored 2:1 for the visitors after a breakaway. In the 36th minute, Ben Karner again scored from close range to level the game at 2:2.

Klagenfurt made the better start to the final period, with Simon Cseh firing the puck into the net for 3:2 in the 42nd minute. Four minutes later, Johannes Dobrovolny made it 4:2 for Head Coach René Wild’s team. KAC then set course for victory and the championship title with a quick double from Simon Cseh and Tristan Schall within 53 seconds, making it 5:2 and 6:2.

Luc van Ee put the finishing touch on the 7:2 scoreline 27 seconds before the end. EC KAC’s U15 team thus secured the 2022/2023 championship. Following the U18 and U13 titles, it was already the third youth title for the Klagenfurt side.
