IIHF World Cham­pi­onship 2025 schedule released: Austria opens with block­buster clash against Finland!

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has released the schedule for the 2025 World Championship, which will take place in Stockholm (SWE) and Herning (DEN) from 09 to 25 May 2025. Austria's men's national ice hockey team will open with a blockbuster clash against Finland, whom the ÖEHV side sensationally defeated 3:2 after trailing 0:2 at the World Championship in Prague in May. A reminder: Benjamin Baumgartner scored the winner 0,2 seconds before the final buzzer.

Following the opening game against the Finns, Austria will face Sweden, Slovakia, Canada, France and Slovenia in Group A in Stockholm. Latvia await in the impressive Globe Arena in the final preliminary-round game.

Compared to the past three editions, the schedule offers the red-white-red players more rest days. However, they are nominally in the more difficult group, as Head Coach Roger Bader confirms: "As at the 2024 World Championship, we are again in the nominally more difficult group compared to the other group in 2025. Our aim is to be successful against France and Slovenia and once again try to pick up points against the top nations."
